Symptoms
When using the mandolin tuning that's listed in the tuning dictionary, notes sound incorrect.
Cause
The tuning is off by an octave too high. The actual tuning should be (low to high) G3 D4 A4 E5, not G4 D5 A5 E6.
Resolution
Change and save the mandolin tuning as follows:
- On the Tools menu, click Tuning Dictionary.
- Select the 4-string Instrument item from the List tunings for box.
- From the list of tunings, click the Mandolin-Standard tuning and then click the Edit Tuning button. (the button with the pencil on it)
- Using the arrow spin buttons, change the tuning to (string 4 to 1) G3 D4 A4 E5.
- Click OK and then click OK again.
