Summary
When trying to open a file in Power Tab Editor, the program halts with an error.

With every new version of the program, more features and functionality are added to the Power Tab file format. When you try to use a version of the program that is older than the one that was used to create the score, the program does not know how to interpret the new features, resulting in an error being thrown.
Resolution
Ensure that you have the latest version of the Editor. What happens in most cases when this problem occurs, is that a person using version 1.7 of the Editor creates a score that is downloaded by person who is using an earlier version of the program. Since the file format has changed between versions, the older version is unaware of the new features in the newer version, and thus exits with an error.
